Best leagues to play in FM 21
Dear Football Manager Guru readers, here we are again ready to talk about our favourite manager game of all time. In today’s post, we’ll be looking at what are the best leagues to load into FM 21 in order to create a great career with plenty of excitement.
Whether you’re a Football Manager fan looking for a new challenge or a newcomer to the game for the first time, choosing which leagues to load at the start of your adventure can be a tricky decision.
Considering that there are over 100 leagues available in the new Football Manager 2021 game spread across no less than 52 countries, it’s easy to see how choosing which and how many leagues to load is not so obvious.
Of course, the big leagues will be familiar and will always have a certain appeal, but some relatively less traditional football leagues can offer intriguing challenges and certainly countless thrills.
Let’s try to analyse the most intriguing ones from our point of view.
Best leagues to play in FM 21
England
The appeal of English football extends far beyond the Premier League, with the country boasting several highly competitive leagues, with more teams and more matches than other nations. Moreover, the allure of the domestic cups in England is unrivalled.
Of course, managing one of the top clubs in the Premier League is an exciting prospect, considering that you have some of the best young talent in the world, the stars of the global football firmament, big budgets and the fascinating domestic competitions.
Confronting the skill and guile of some of the top international managers such as:
- Jurgen Klopp
- Marcelo Bielsa
- Pep Guardiola
- Jose Mourinho
- Carlo Ancelotti
would certainly be a test of your skills as a manager and expert in tactics.
You could imagine yourself as the person who will finally bring Manchester United back to its rightful place after Sir Alex Ferguson’s departure, or maybe you will be able to repeat Claudio Ranieri’s miracle at Leicester. Who knows?
Of course, let’s not forget that one of the best challenges in Football Manager has always been to restore clubs of great tradition to their former glory. You can do this by starting in the Championship, looking to climb the ladder and get promoted to the Premier League.
For the more courageous you can also choose the minor leagues
Italy
After dominating European football in the 1990s until the 2000s, Italian football suffered a more or less physiological decline. For this reason, however, the great European and international champions began to choose other destinations, which were more attractive to them technically and economically.
In recent years, however, this trend has changed. The Italian football scene has enjoyed a sort of renaissance, mainly due to great champions such as Cristiano Ronaldo and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
For this reason, a true Football Manager might decide to start with a mid-level club and try to defeat the most emblazoned battleships such as:
- A.C. Milan
- Inter
- Juve
- Roma
- Napoli
great candidates to win the Scudetto. For example, you could choose the revelation Atalanta and try to win in Italy first and then in Europe. Or you could try to improve the fortunes of Florence or make the big leap with the Lazio team of bomber Ciro Immobile.
Belgium
Belgium are currently one of the best national teams in world football, with stars such as Kevin De Bruyne, Eden Hazard and Romelu Lukaku central to the game in Antonio Conte’s 3-5-2 tactic.
However, the Dutch nation never really made an impact on the European scene, with Anderlecht the only team to win a continental title by triumphing in the 1983 UEFA Cup.
Club Brugge were beaten in the 1978 European Cup final, losing to Liverpool.
With such a reputation for producing talented players, you could jump at the chance to set a new record that has been missing for several years.
Holland
Since the Total Football revolution of the 1970s, Dutch football has been a standard bearer for European football, with teams like Ajax and the Dutch national team thrilling fans.
However, the landscape as presented in Football Manager 2021 is a long way from those glory days, although Ajax, PSV and Feyenoord still pack a punch.
Managing Ajax could be a piece of cake on the domestic front, so the real challenge in taking over lies in trying to deliver the first Champions League since 1995.
Ending Ajax’s dominance and starting a new era in Dutch football with one of the relatively less heralded teams like Vitesse or AZ is another tough prospect.
How about making Sparta Rotterdam as big as Feyenoord or reviving the prospects of the unusual Go Ahead Eagles?
Get involved by showing your managerial skills!
Argentina
The passion and intensity of Argentine football is almost unparalleled. The fans of Argentine football teams have always been among the hottest on the South American continent, and watching matches on TV is a unique and enthralling spectacle.
Just think of the sheer ferocity of the Superclasico rivalry between Boca Juniors and River Plate.
Argentina is a country with a rich football culture and has obviously produced two of the greatest footballers of all time: Diego Maradona and Lionel Messi.
River Plate is the team with the most titles, but in recent years they have not been doing so well at the expense of Boca Juniors led by Carlitos Tevez.
Over the years, Los Millonarios ( the nickname of the River Plate ) have produced some very talented players, including:
- Pablo Aimar
- Javier Mascherano
- Gonzalo Higuain
and currently possess some excellent talent for European football. So what better idea than to take River and lead them back to the title at the expense of big rivals Boca Juniors?
